On behalf of the orchestra, it is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to the 2013-2014 season of the Pittsburgh Philharmonic! It is truly an honor to be given the chance to lead the Phil for a third season with such an enthusiastic ensemble and terrific audience. To those of you that have supported us throughout the years I extend hearty thanks and to those of you that are joining us perhaps for the first time you’re in for a real treat! I am pleased to present to you a season of Famous Finales. The selections for this year are truly inspirational, action-packed and sure to please with concerts on Famous Last Words, your favorite Holiday Pops to round out the year, a conducting duel between Pittsburgh Youth Chamber Orchestra’s own Pablo Ardiles and myself in a Concert of Encores, and ending the year with the most famous finale of them all—Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Westmoreland Choral Society!

I hope you enjoy all of our season and look forward to seeing you at the symphony!

Edward Leonard
Principal Conductor
