Pittsburgh Philharmonic Educational Programs

The Pittsburgh Philharmonic is pleased to offer three exciting programs to young musicians throughout the region: the Young Artist Concerto Competition, the Young Composer Contest, and the Summer Student Side-by-Side Program.

Young Artist Concerto Competition

The Pittsburgh Philharmonic invites applications from high school musicians performing on harp, strings, brass, or woodwinds. Applicants must be residents of Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Washington, or Westmoreland Counties. The Young Artist Concerto Competition winner will be invited to perform with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic one concert cycle and will receive a $250 scholarship. Click here for more information.

Young Composer Contest

The Pittsburgh Philharmonic invites applications from residents of the Greater Pittsburgh area. The Contest Winner will have their piece performed at the Pittsburgh Philharmonic’s March concerts and will receive a $250.00 prize. Click here for more information.

Summer Student Side-by-Side Program

High school instrumental students entering grades 8 through 12 are invited to audition for an opportunity to play side by side with the members of the Philharmonic for the entire summer season. Pittsburgh Philharmonic summer students work and play in a mentoring environment with experienced adult musicians. There may also be opportunities to play in small ensembles or chamber groups.
