Pittsburgh Philharmonic Summer Student Program

The Pittsburgh Philharmonic is pleased to announce its Summer Student Program for 2013. High school instrumental students entering grades 8 – 12 are invited to audition for an opportunity to play side-by-side with the members of the Philharmonic for the entire summer season. Pittsburgh Philharmonic summer students work and play in a mentoring environment with experienced adult musicians. There may also be opportunities to play in small ensembles or chamber groups. These groups will be formed, dependent upon instrumentation of the accepted summer students.

Other aspects of our outreach to developing musicians include our Young Artist Concerto Competition, where top high school musicians are selected by audition to perform with our orchestral accompaniment.  Please watch for information regarding this in the fall.

The Pittsburgh Philharmonic is Southwestern Pennsylvania’s premier volunteer orchestra. The Philharmonic is committed to the creative expression of great music played passionately, with core traditions of education, affordability and accessibility. The Philharmonic has approximately 70 members, ranging in age from 15 to 80, and hailing from throughout the tri-state area. Numerous musicians have been members for over 20 years, including several from the orchestras earliest days (formally The North Pittsburgh Civic Symphony and The North Pittsburgh Philharmonic). The musicians of The Pittsburgh Philharmonic, though volunteers, have notable credentials. Many teach music or play professionally, have advanced degrees in music, and are active members of the Pittsburgh music scene. All have talents that inspire others, like the hundreds of young people who have experienced our educational programs.

We hope you will take advantage of this educational performance opportunity with the Philharmonic.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Brady Porter by email or phone at 412-337-7397.
