High school instrumental students entering grades 8 – 12 are invited to audition for an opportunity to play side by side with the members of the Philharmonic for the entire summer season. Pittsburgh Philharmonic summer students work and play in a mentoring environment with experienced adult musicians.
There are no application or audition fees
Upon acceptance, the fee for the summer program is $50
Need-based scholarships are available

- Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 10am – 12pm, by appointment
- Video auditions upon request (in person preferred)

REHEARSAL DATES:
- Monday evenings June 1, 8, 15, and 22, from 7:15 pm to 9:45 pm at PYCO
- Dress rehearsal Monday, June 29, 7:15 – 9:45 pm, Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center, 3579 Masonic Way, Pittsburgh PA 15237
PERFORMANCE DATES:
- Saturday, July 4, 2025, at 8:00 PM – Independence Day Celebration (fireworks to follow) at Zelienople Community Park, 402 East Beaver Street, Zelienople, PA 16063
- Sunday, July 5, 2025 at 4:00 PM – Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center, 3579 Masonic Way, Pittsburgh, PA 152371, 8, 15, 22
Audition Requirements
Violin, viola cello:
Major Scales: 3 sharps and 3 flats memorized
Solo: PMEA Grade level selection or Suzuki book 4 and higher
Bass:
Major Scales: 3 sharps and 3 flats memorized
Solo: PMEA Grade level selection
Woodwinds and brass:
Major Scales: 3 sharps and 3 flats memorized
Solo: PMEA Grade level selection
Percussion:
Solo: PMEA Grade level selection
